You may feel better during your period if you wear period underwear that is reliable and comfortable (and made to absorb menstrual fluid). Moreover, there are currently a variety of options that are both fashionable and functional.
You may ask do Thinx run small? Yes! Thinx tend to run on the small side, but I’ve never had one soak through.
While some designs of period underwear are beautiful but prone to leaking, others offer Hoover Dam–level security in designs that seem more like diapers. Depending on your period flow and personal preferences, one technique may work better than another. We have tested over 40 different types of period underwear from 20 different brands throughout four years and a wide range of sizes and shapes.
Do Thinx Run Small?
The Thinx Hi-Waist era pants are a fashion statement that is suitable for both Fashion Week and Leak Week thanks to their throwback design and high waist. This underwear put the “fun” in utilitarian, with a ventilated mesh side panel and an opaque central panel that wicks away moisture.
When it comes to comfort and style, the Thinx pair is among the best we’ve tried (one reviewer called the design “a period-sex-worthy panty”). Period pantyliners don’t leak as easily as some others.
The Thinx briefs have a similar feel to conventional underwear when not soaked in blood. The Thinx pair feels heavier when full without becoming soggy, and the gusset doesn’t expand like it did on some other pairs we tried.
The underwear is expensive at $35 per pair, but it is of high quality and will last a long time. Over the course of two years, one of our testers washed and dried this pair at least fifty times in cold water before subjecting them to high heat.
Even after being cleaned, there was no noticeable color loss or snags in the mesh, and there were barely any frays in the gusset when compared to a brand new pair.
The respected Swiss research group Oeko-Tex has confirmed that all Thinx underwear is free of “harmful chemicals.”
Four times the absorbency of a standard tampon, according to the manufacturer.
Fabrics made from polyurethane laminate (PUL), cotton, and elastane are used for the gussets.
Instructions for care: Machine wash cold on a regular cycle with no fabric softener or bleach; dry flat.
Try to avoid using an iron. Underwear purchased from Thinx can be returned within 60 days.
Knix Vs Thinx
Knix is a Canadian business that specializes in intimate apparel like bras, underwear, and even loungewear. A bra and some basic underwear are two of the items I’ve bought from them. Their usual underwear is seamless and constructed of nylon and Lycra.
Their collection of leak-proof products is made specifically for women experiencing menstruation or urinary incontinence (PS: if you experience leaking when running, jumping, or laughing, you should consult a pelvic floor physiotherapist). The bikini briefs have a fluid capacity of up to 2 tampons’ worth of fluid, or about 10mL (or 2 tsp), although there are alternative options (like thongs and boy shorts).
Both the body and the gusset of their leakproof and ordinary underwear are composed of nylon and Lycra; the only difference is that the crotch of the leakproof underwear is lined with 86% cotton.
This pair is what I wore on days with moderate sunlight (the tail-end of my cycle). And I liked them because they were seamless and thin (not as thick as Thinx), so I didn’t have to bother with any kind of inside lining.
Care was simple, too; I just washed them in cold water and dried them in the dryer (although they do recommend that they should be hung to dry).
While Thinx having a subsidiary company, Speax, that caters to women with urine incontinence, Thinx is an American corporation that only produces period-proof underwear. The material Thinx is made of is moisture-wicking, antimicrobial, absorbent, and leak-proof.
The outer layer of my pair is a waterproof PUL fabric, and the inner layer is a 95% cotton lining (which is great for those who suffer from chronic vaginal infections). I went out and bought the scarlet hiphuggers that can contain the equivalent of two tampons. They come in a wide range of sizes and styles (including boy shorts) and are similar to Knix in that they may be used to store liquids.
These are more bulkier than Knix and have a full lining. Throughout my heaviest days, I wore them both during the day and while sleeping. They were really comfortable and provided an extra layer of security for the night. The few times I experienced light leakage during the day or night, the Thinx soaked it all up and left my clothes and bedsheets unscathed.
Thinx maintenance was uncomplicated as well. Then I threw them in the washing machine with cold water and dried them in the dryer after giving them a quick rinse. Although I was told to hang them to dry, I no longer do so.
But in all, Thinx is great for heavy days and nighttime, whereas Knix is great for medium-light days.
Can you leak through Thinx?
The design of the gusset section (in your crotch) ensures that Thinx will not leak even when you are walking or exercising vigorously. But if you overstuff your Thinx, they will start to leak. That’s the case whether you use a mooncup, a pad, or a tampon.
Do you wear a pad or tampon with Thinx?
During your period, you may feel confident in the fact that thinx period pants will keep you dry and comfortable. Wearing them is as simple as you would with any other pair of underwear, except that they come with built-in security features. They are versatile and can be worn with or without a menstruation cup or tampon. They’re durable, can be washed and reused, and can last a long time if you treat them right.
Do Thinx work for heavy flow?
When the flow is really robust, try the Thinx Super Hiphugger, Cotton Briefs, or Boyshorts. Three regular tampons, four regular tampons, or five regular tampons are available, depending on your desired level of absorbency. I would suggest using all 5 tampons if you want a stronger grip.
Does Thinx feel wet?
Because of this, Miki and her twin sister set out to design Thinx, which features antibacterial characteristics so they don’t smell, a moisture-wicking layer so they don’t feel damp, and an absorbent layer so they are leakproof.
Why does my Thinx smell?
Blood that has been absorbed by your period panties might accumulate in the gusset and produce an unpleasant odor or reduce the effectiveness of the underwear. All the scuffs and wrinkles from a couple of spins in the dryer won’t ruin your thinx. However, to keep them looking good for longer, you should avoid drying them very often. Leak-proof underwear loses its elasticity when washed and dried in a dryer or iron.
How often do you wash Thinx?
